Report Cover

Headline

Vehicle sales disappointed in June, falling to 16.6 mm units. sales averaged a 17.1 mm unit pace in 2016-H1, a decent showing but a clear deceleration from 17.3 mm in 2015-H1. Domestic auto sales averaged 5.0 mm units in 16Q2, worst quarter since 2011.

Abstract

Vehicle Sales disappointed in June; as in March, much of the shortfall came in fleet sales. At the halfway point, 2016 sales are unlikely to break the long-standing record set in 2000, in part because of the surging popularity of ride-sharing services (which, among other things, are beginning to shift consumption to services from goods/autos). Regardless, the vehicle sector and the consumer remain in good shape.
