Xi Sun

Sun is the founder & CEO of a Singapore-based consultancy services firm, ESGuru (www.esguru.asia), a pioneering and integrated provider on corporate environmental, social and governance (ESG) disclosure, management and engagement issues in Asia.
From 2010 to 2016, Sun worked for Sustainalytics, a global leader in sustainability research & analysis, serving investors & financial institutions with responsible investment solutions. In Sustainalytics, he participated in the design of ESG rating system and focused on ESG research in Greater China and Asia. He authored several reports covering diverse ESG topics such as air pollution, food safety, family business and China’s Xi-Li Administration. In 2012, 2013 and 2014, Sun was named one of the top sustainable and responsible researcher as well as corporate governance analysts globally in the Thomson Reuters Extel's Independent Research in Responsible Investment (IRRI) Survey.
As a commentator, Sun’s writing interests focus on social, economic and political issues in China, Singapore and Asia. His English and Chinese articles and views have appeared in most of the leading publications across Asia & the Pacific such as Huffington Post (US), National Interest (US), BBC (UK), RFI (France), China Daily, Global Times (China), Shanghai Daily, South China Morning Post (Hong Kong), Straits Times (Singapore), Business Times (Singapore), New Straits Times (Malaysia), Jakarta Post (Indonesia), Bangkok Post (Thailand), Japan Today, Korea Times, Saudi Gazette, Global New Light of Myanmar, Kathmandu Post, Outlook Afghanistan, Business Day (South Africa), as well as Globalist, World Journal, Governance Journal blog, SEA Globe Magazine, International Policy Digestand and so on.
Sun’s past work experience includes three years in investment information research and public relations for China’s Investment Promotion Agency within the Ministry of Commerce. Sun also participated in an internship program at the United Nation Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).
Sun’s research interests cover ESG issues related to social responsible investment (SRI) and corporate social responsibility (CSR), as well as foreign direct investment, international trade and finance, and regional integration and development in Asia and the Pacific.
Sun holds a master’s degree in Public Policy specializing in Economic Policy and Analysis from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore. He also has two bachelor’s degrees in Management Information System and International Economic Law from the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, China.
